School-within-the-School

The School-within-the-School (SWS) program was a unique academic opportunity that was offered to students for only a short while.  This program began by allowing selected freshman to explore many different areas of knowledge through "three year long foundation courses" with "a variety of instructional approaches." A big reason this program was put into place was because students weren't finding significant linkages between their major and the fields of study surrounding them. It was difficult to discover when and why the SWS program was discontinued, but it is true that some students were very enthusiastic about the program and were upset that it was canned.
